This exhibition at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art highlights the work of Robert Freson, who was Irving Penn’s studio assistant in New York City from 1949–62. It emphasizes their shared interest in portraiture, with a selection of Penn’s photographs presented alongside examples from Freson’s later career as a globe-trotting photojournalist. Curated by Ellery Harkness, Bowdoin Class of 2021, with Frank H. Goodyear, Co-Director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art.
